amplot : visualize the behavior of Amanda backup
The command amplot reads amdump file (generated by each run) and translate info into a picture format.
It's a good question how to read and understand the picture !?
For example, to visualize a Eng-Weekly1 run do :
- Go to /tmp directory
- Run amplot command : amplot -p /etc/amanda/Eng-Weekly1/state/amdump.1
The file 20170811203001.ps has been created in the working directory /tmp, can be renamed to Eng-Weekly1-20170811203001.ps
- Use Ghostscript to create a jpeg file : gs -sDEVICE=jpeg -sOutputFile=Eng-Weekly1-20170811203001.jpg Eng-Weekly1-20170811203001.ps
Ignore possible "Can't find" messages, and on "GS>" prompt type "quit"
- Look the jpg file and try to understand it.
